Claudio Pompili studied with Salvatore Sciarrino in September/October 1985 at a corso estivo in Città di Castello, Umbria, Italy. At the completion of the course, he was invited by Sciarrino to work as copyist on his Allegoria della Notte score for orchestra. During this 'apprenticeship' work, Pompili lodged with Sciarrino in his upstairs flat in Città di Castello and was able to learn and appreciate many aspects of his art, directly from the maestro.
